All Parakey hardware uses Bluetooth to communicate with the user’s mobile device, providing increased security and robustness.

When installing Parakey Slim, it is important to place the device as close to the door environment as possible to achieve maximum range for unlocking.

Parakey Cylinder, Door Handle and PDL are installed either outside or inside the door environment. Their range is optimized for this purpose, as their placement cannot be adjusted.

Placement of Parakey Slim

Parakey Slim can control electromechanical locks and enrich existing access control systems. It is typically installed on "the secure side" (inside) of the locked space. The device should be placed close to the door or the electrical lock they control.

Obstacles that can reduce range

Maximum range is reduced when radio signals need to penetrate materials such as:

  • Thick reinforced concrete walls (20+ cm)

  • Metal façades

  • Energy-efficient glass windows

  • Metal doors

💡Tip: If unsure how materials affect signal strength, power up the device and test its performance before final installation.

Testing device range and placement

  1. Make sure the door or gate is closed and stand outside the locked area.

  2. Position yourself a few meters beyond the expected unlocking distance (sit inside a car if testing a garage).

  3. Unlock using the Parakey app. Performance should be as fast and reliable as being close to the device.

  4. If unlocking is slow or unreliable, reposition the device and repeat the test until optimal placement is found.
