Identify and rename a key fob or access card

A clear name makes it easier to find the right key fob in the web portal. You can also read a physical key fob with the Android app. Support for programming and managing key fobs on iOS is under development.

Read the key fob with your phone

  1. Open the Parakey app on an Android phone with NFC.

  2. Select the relevant site and open the function for managing key fobs and access cards.

  3. Choose to read a key fob.

  4. Hold the key fob against your phone’s NFC reader and check the information shown.

You need administrator permissions for the site.

Identify the key fob by its UID

Key fobs and access cards from Parakey have a UID, a unique identification number, on the back. You can compare this number with the information in the web portal to find the right key fob.

A name describes how you use the key fob. The UID helps you distinguish it from other physical key fobs.

Rename it in the web portal

  1. Open the relevant site and go to Keys → Key fobs and access cards.

  2. Open the key fob you want to change.

  3. Edit the name and save.

Consider naming the key fob after the person who will use it, such as Astrid Lindquist, or after the spaces it gives access to, such as Event space, Equipment room or Reception.

💡 Renaming a key fob does not change which locks it can open. Check its access rights separately if you pass it on to someone else.
